2020 Angel City Virtual Games presented by The Hartford

COVID-19 Update

March 12, 2020

Dear Angel City Sports athletes, volunteers, and supporters

Our team has been closely monitoring the current Covid-19 crisis. After careful evaluation, we have decided to suspend all programming and events through the end of June, including the 6th Annual Angel City Games presented by The Hartford.

And as many of you know, we have been working hard since our founding in 2013 to provide free training, equipment and competitive opportunities for our athletes. We believe that physical health is a basic human right and fundamental to the overall well-being of kids, adults, and veterans with physical disabilities. We believe in the importance of sport in building community, and creating a sense of belonging for our athletes. We believe in the power of sport to transform lives, improve self-confidence, and unlock dreams, on and off the field of play.

That being said, the health and safety of our athletes and our community is the most important lens we will look through as this situation unfolds. We will do everything in our power to show an abundance of caution in our decisions. This leads us to today. With the wide-spread cancellation of events and social gatherings, lack of testing, poor understanding of the number of corona virus cases in the US, and an already constrained healthcare system, we all have to make some very difficult decisions.

At this point, as many healthcare experts have mentioned, we are beyond containment in the US. We are now trying to "flatten the curve" and spread out the impact to give our health system time to adapt. In that light of these factors and the uncertainty of our environment, we have decided to suspend all Angel City Sports programming from today through the end of June. This includes the highly anticipated, 6th Annual Angel City Games presented the Hartford. The 2020 Games was going to be bigger and better than last year, with nine Paralympic sports, a dozen recreational sports, special events, 600 athletes from 40 states, adaptive musicians, celebrities, and more!

You have our commitment to find new ways to connect, engage, and build community. Our team is already working on new and innovative ways to inspire and support our athletes to live a healthy, active life, even if that means from the living room or garage.

We encourage you to do everything in your control to stay safe and protect public health. Be diligent in your efforts to socially isolate, wash your hands frequently, and avoid touching your face. We would also advise that you reconsider any and all unnecessary travel, meetings, and frankly, any gatherings. We firmly believe that if we all work together to minimize the impact of Covid-19, life will get back to normal that much sooner.

Please follow @angelcitysports on social media and sign-up for our email newsletter at angelcitysports.org for the latest news regarding our events and events being hosted by our partners.
