The Angel City Games Wheelchair Tennis competition will be a two-day DOUBLES tournament. It is scheduled for the following day and times:
SATURDAY, JUNE 23rd 10am – 5pm
SUNDAY, JUNE 24th 10am – 5pm
This is a DOUBLES competition, open to athletes of all skill levels, and for both ambulatory and wheelchair competitors. All athletes will compete in sports chairs. Those who do not have a doubles partner will be assigned one who is of a similar skill level.
It will be an unsanctioned competition. Competitors will need to register based on their skill level. Players MUST have formal wheelchair tennis match experience and play tournaments regularly whether through the USTA or another league. Players need to be able to consistently hit serves and returns. Players need to have working knowledge of score keeping and wheelchair tennis rules.
The skill levels will be as follows:
Open or A-Level Player
"Open" means the player has had intensive training for tournament competition at the national and international levels. The player has excellent chair mobility.
"A-Level" means the player has good shot anticipation and has developed power and/or consistency as a major weapon. Can vary strategies and styles of play in a competitive situation. Hits dependable shots in a stress situation. Solid chair mobility.
B-Level or C-Level Player
"B-Level" means the player has begun to master the use of power and spins. The player is beginning to handle pace and vary game plan according to opponents. Good chair mobility.
"C-Level" means the player has achieved improved stroke dependability with directional control on moderate shots, but lacks depth and variety. Learning consistent chair mobility.
Registration online will be open until midnight on Wednesday, June 13th.
Awards TBD for winner of tournament and for second place finisher.
