Why is it a good idea to take part in our optional classification for Track & Field and Swimming competitions?
Classification helps to define which athletes are eligible to compete in each of the sports. It also helps to ensure a level playing field by grouping athletes into classes based on their ability to perform a certain activity.
How are athletes' classifications defined at the Angel City Games?
Athletes competing in Track & Field and Swimming competitions can opt to go through a voluntary classification evaluation, if they have not already been classified before. Classification appointments will be conducted by authorized technical officials called "classifiers," with more details in the Registration form. It is a long-term and in some cases ongoing process which takes place at all major events, before and during competition.
How does classification work?
Classifiers assess the athlete's physical disability and how it impacts their ability to perform certain functions in the sport. After each evaluation the athletes are assigned a sport class. For more detailed information on classification, visit US Paralympics website.
WHY DO I NEED TO SCHEDULE A CLASSIFICATION APPOINTMENT?
Classification is performed, one-on-one, by our professional staff and it generally takes between 30-45 minutes to complete. Thus, it is important to have your appointment scheduled for classification BEFORE you arrive at the Angel City Games. We have limited spots available for classification appointments.
DO I NEED ANYTHING ELSE BESIDES AN APPOINTMENT FOR CLASSIFICATION?
If you are going to be classified, you will need to have filled out and sent to us a completed Medical Diagnostic Form (MDF). You may download the form from the link below and then email the completed form to Angel City Games at firstname.lastname@example.org.
